Read ThisSupergiant's Hades is an incredibly addictive roguelite that hit the market in December 2018. Despite a very iterative and exciting period of Early Access, the game appears to have seen even more success following the release of 1.0 on September 17, 2020.
The game is available now for PC, Mac, and Nintendo Switch, and if you're new to it, you're probably looking for building guides to help you overcome some of the game's toughest challenges. Every area in Hades is surrounded by a tough boss fight that could stop your progress if you don't check your build. If you're stuck in a routine and looking for tips on how to get you out of the underworld, you've come to the right place!
Follow our guide to crafting Hades, where you'll learn how to use the game's weapons, skills, and power-ups to finally make your way out of the underworld!
Safety comes first
The best thing you can do to bolster your build and increase the chances of escaping Hades in… Hades is to pump through whatever means necessary to unlock Death Defiance attacks. Give your first nectar to a bone friend Skelly to receive his Lucky Tooth souvenir, which will automatically restore 50/75/100 health upon death.
And don't waste your Darkness early in the game, save it for additional Death Defiance attacks! They get quite expensive after the first one, but if you hold back other improvements it will pay off in the long run. With two or three attacks from Death Defiance, you can easily break through the first few areas and make every run worthwhile.
The best Builds of Hades
Now that your life is in order, it's time to talk about favors and hammers! Now it's worth noting that figuring out which version is best for you in Hades is often a matter of trial and error. Weapon preferences are hotly debated in the Hades community - I'm a big fan of archery, but for example, a lot of people hate them. Either way, here are some weapon combinations to consider that can be useful to link together depending on what you have at your disposal.
If you're using a knife, try to collect some of Hermes' blessings to speed up your attack speed, then double the Demeter's cold to make your enemies very slow when you're close and personal. This is perfect for controlling a busy room as the delay effect piles on enemies and allows you to spot and spot tough beasts without worrying about their friends overtaking you.
If you're using a bow, consider picking up some of Poseidon's gifts that will bounce back your skills and attacks. Combine this with a hammer upgrade that allows you to shorten attack charging times and split attacks into triple shots, and you can keep enemies at bay and control them from a distance. Bow builds also take advantage of the benefits of Zeus, which add chain lightning to your attacks, as you can usually just camp in the corner of a room and tag enemies from a distance, killing them before they hit you with lightning damage. It's even better if you can apply the Jolted debuff, which damages enemies when they attack.
If you're using a spear, consider getting gifts from Athena that can help you repel incoming missiles for extra survival in a more aggressive playstyle. Then you can focus on Artemis and Ares - if you manage to get the Doom debuff on your attacks and get a critical hit chance then throwing a few stabs and escaping to safety will leave your enemies like dust as they take damage increase.
