"When we planned it all, we knew we wanted to organize something special as a surprise prize for all our players by the end of the year: old, new and returning. We found the new party hat the perfect way to celebrate the occasion and let those who may have missed it. the first time, they will join the action!

One of the main problems with bringing back the party hat was the devaluation of the original. Some players are sitting on a literal gold mine worth billions, so getting it back into its classic form wasn't on the table. Their rarity makes them so iconic and sought after - RuneScape knew this and made sure they didn't collide with a party hat from 20 years ago.

"The original RuneScape party hats are valuable items for players who are lucky enough to own and don't want to take it away from them," said Casey. “If we just added more of the existing party hats to the game, their value would go down. So we avoided this by making the golden party hat a variant - a separate item. We have remained true to the original iconic design, so still recognizable, but now with an added shine.

"That sparked some interesting discussions," added Casey. Should it be the same or different? Pointed or conical? Reflective or simple? How hard is it to get it? I think it's safe to say that many of us were a bit nervous about how this would be received, but our players were very positive and really enjoyed the whole event.
