Read ThisI have to be mindful of my normal Blizzard Sorc that I designed to level (at 89) so that I can change certain points and put an ethereal monarchy on.
However I'm curious to switch from hydra/blizzard to frozen orb of D2R Ladder Items... I'm a huge fan of my blizzard that is budget friendly... however, it's frustrating to be able to farm massive packs and dragging people through snowstorms. Want to increase speed.
In the end I'm concerned about the possibility of losing damage because I usually divided MF when playing larger-scale games. I also manage to take off on farm areas by myself.
Anyone who has had good experiences between the blizzard or Frozen orb? Do the damage go away when you freeze orb, or is it able to keep up with blizzard?
I was able to level up to around 80 by using a build based on fire and cold that focused around Fire Wall and Frozen Orb. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but was keen to test Blizzard and had to revise my stats in the meantime. I would much rather play Blizzard in my setup and will be sharing my experiences on the differences , because Blizzard isn't necessarily "better" IMO.
Blizzard Pros - Higher damage output than Frozen Orb. You also have the option of moving more, since you can cast it completely across the screen with no movement. This will help you survive for those who are not adept in dancing with crowds.
Blizzard Cons - Inconsistent hits. I often cast blizzard, and it is apparent that a mob or three do not get hit. I've cast it on one mob, and they walked close to the end of before getting struck. It could be frustrating.
Frozen Orb Pros - Very fast hit on mobs. You place a TP on a specific spot and let the orb move and each monster that is within it will be struck. IIRC lower cooldown for casting and you can cast very easily , which is ideal for casting and running to get the monsters. Fast-moving mobs that are escaping the night to surround and murder you.
Frosted Orb Cons - lower kill rate, IMO, than blizzard. You must move around frequently if you want to clear mobs so that you can place the orbs in the proper places. The damage falloff is very sharp due to the way it releases frozen shards of ice that the mobs.
Nearest to the orb will suffer massive damage. It will fall off more sharply the further you go. Also, that you have to move around a lot.
Summary If I could do the same thing over again, I'd repeat the same process. Play with the frozen Orb until the end of the game. Then switch to Blizzard to prevent damage to the bump and improve the casting range the ability to cast. It is important to know that I am an Ice/Fire build, so I have around 45 points to Fire Mastery and all the way from Fire Wall and I'm guessing 2 points in Warmth because mana regen can be hot. A great tip is that a dual specification build such as this will give more options in farming areas, D2R items buy and it also allows for casting improvements make it simple to put an enormous firey X across the screen and drop Orbs or Blizzards over the same area which is a great method of dropping mobs quickly.
