Read ThisIn the past four years in particular, Doom has easily made one of the best returns in video game history. After a 12-year hiatus, id Software and Bethesda Softworks have done an excellent job of restoring Doom to its former glory. While before Doom (2016) came out, the fourth lead game was apparently being worked on, which was eventually abandoned in favor of a 2016 title.
Doom 3 was the last game in the series to be released prior to Doom's reactivation in 2016. Released in 2004, the game featured horror elements in addition to the action-oriented gameplay that Doom was previously known for. Later, it took developers up to 12 years to release the new game, but according to the newly created gameplay segments and screenshots, not only could the new game be released earlier, but it would look completely different from the final version of Doom. (2016).
Test images, animations, and screenshots were shown in a short video posted by Crispies on YouTube. In many ways what is shown in the video, while very rough compared to the end product, has many similarities to newer games. The designs of enemies and weapons are similar to the actual game. In fact, some environmental projects are very similar to those that later appear in Doom Eternal, such as apocalyptic urban areas.
You wonder what kind of game it would have been if things had turned out differently. The first enemy shown in the video, the one in the sweatshirt, is virtually nothing like the enemies that appear in the final version. It's weird to consider that this could only have been the fourth episode and not a reboot. But on the other hand, there are already a lot of things about the Doom series that don't make any sense.
A lot of people were really happy with what Doom looked like in later years, and in this video there are a lot of components that made their way into the final game, but it would still be interesting to see what happened could be done differently. Over the years, Doom has taken many forms and a talented user has turned Doom into an '80s pixel shooter, but it's clear this game wanted to do something a little different.
While Doom 3 has not been received as positively as other Doom titles, it has tried to do things differently, and while newer games have brought the series to the present day, the structure is somewhat static. But again, the new DLC campaign can make a difference for that. With the success of The Ancient Gods, another DLC campaign could be launched just around the corner.
